I have to, as I have a chronic scalp condition which is irritated by some of the stuff that is in shampoo.

All you need to do is boil up a handful of soapwort root in a pint of water with a sprig of rosemary. Simmer for 5 minutes, leave until cold, then strain. You don't need the rosemary, but it smells nice. You could use another herb, if you like.

Bottle it, and put it in the fridge, it should keep for 2 weeks. To use it, massage ot gradually into your hair, combing it in. It won't foam up much, and it is very watery. Then rinse it off with plenty of warm water. You won't need conditioner, as it is very gentle and won't strip the hair of all of its natural oil. It won't feel squeaky clean like bought shampoo leaves the hair, but it WILL be clean, you have to take a step of faith in it until it is dry. It really is great for flyaway, frizzy hair. You can grow soapwort in the garden, it has pretty pink flowers.
more hints and tips @ http://www.learningnewthings.net
Your one stop resource!

Today's Thrifty Tip

Feeling the need to get ready for cold weather does not mean we're going back in time. Our parents or grandparents needed to make autumn preparations. If we're smart, we'll do the same, even if what WE do has changed.

What do we need to do in the autumn, before the cold weather comes?
1. Have furnaces checked, change the filter, and most of all check Your smoke alarm batteries.
2. Clean out coat closets. Check sizes, wear and so on, to see what needs to be replaced before cold weather.
3. Have our cars tuned up and ready for cold weather driving. Make sure our tires are ok for ice and/or snow.
4. Buy what's on sale now. Can, dehydrate and freeze produce that is cheap right now for frugal winter eating.
5. Take a look at window casings and doors and make any repairs that are needed. Replace caulking, tighten hinges, install weather stripping.
6. Take advantage of sales on garden tools, paper, pens, pencils and fresh root vegetables.
7. Look to nature to provide decorations for our homes. Everything from rocks, twigs, to "weeds" can be used creatively. The more we prepare before winter comes, the less winter will cost us and that's a FRUGAL fact.
or browse learningnewthings.net for additonal quick and handy tips! But the answer really depends on your situation. Buying is often a cheaper option for the long term. Still, if you like a new car every couple of years, you may be better off leasing. Here are four questions to help you make your decision:
1. How many years will I have this car? If the answer is three or less, you're better off leasing. At four you could go either way. More than four, buy.
2. How many miles do I drive annually? If it's more than 15,000, you ought to buy. Leases usually figure on mileage of 12,000 to 15,000 a year. Drive more than that and you'll pay an additional 10 to 15 cents per mile. Ouch!
3. Do I take good care of my car? Be honest. If you're the kind of person who never misses an oil change and avoids curbs at all costs, you'll be fine when it comes time to return your leased car. But if not, buy. Otherwise, you could find yourself looking at a hefty bill for "excessive wear and tear."
4. Do I use my car for business? If yes, you may want to lease.
Your one stop resource!

Beauty Tip*

Humidity is the number one reason for frizzy hair, but there are other reasons your hair may frizz even when it's not humid...

You may be handling or touching your hair too much. This can cause hair to expand during the day. After shampooing, squeeze out excess moisture and gently towel dry. Try not to "rub" your hair while you are towel-drying it...

When you blow-dry your hair, use a round brush and make sure your hair is damp, not soaked when you start to dry it.
